Our Mission
Winthrop High School is dedicated to each member of its student body the opportunity to achieve academic excellence in a safe environment. We believe that all students possess the capacity to learn; and that each student is a valued individual with unique physical, social, emotional and intellectual needs. We actively engage our students in developing their critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills. By encouraging our students to become confident, self-directed life-long learners, we seek to connect their personal growth to academic excellence. We seek to foster a climate of shared responsibility among students, faculty, administration, parents, and the community-at-large..

Free Salem State Course for Students
Salem State Dual Enrollment Program
The Dual Enrollment Program in collaboration with Salem State University, Revere High School and Winthrop High School will begin in September 2015. The course, PHL 125, Critical Reasoning, will be offered on Mondays from 6:00-8:20 p.m. at WHS. The course is funded by the Department of Education and is free for our students in grades 10 thru 12, with a 3.0 GPA or above. The course starts on September 14, 2015 and ends December 21, 2015.

Salem State will provide books for the students on the first day of class, however, they must be returned at the end of the term. The Salem State course withdrawal policy will be followed.

This course will go on the student's transcript as a Salem State course, will be considered as an Advanced Placement course and will be given 5:00 credits. The course will also count toward credits at Salem State, if the student chooses to attend that school after high school graduation.

Registration is open and will be accepted on a first come basis. See your guidance counselor for information and course registration forms.
