Our Mission
Winthrop High School is dedicated to each member of its student body the opportunity to achieve academic excellence in a safe environment. We believe that all students possess the capacity to learn; and that each student is a valued individual with unique physical, social, emotional and intellectual needs. We actively engage our students in developing their critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills. By encouraging our students to become confident, self-directed life-long learners, we seek to connect their personal growth to academic excellence. We seek to foster a climate of shared responsibility among students, faculty, administration, parents, and the community-at-large..

Helping Children Cope with Loss
Dear Winthrop Public Schools Community,

It is with heavy hearts that we share some very sad news. Over the weekend, one of our Arthur T. Cummings School students, Sabrina Feudo, passed away after a very unexpected medical condition arose earlier in the week. According to her former teachers and the many community members that she has touched, she was a kind, gentle young lady that brought sunshine to many.

Sabrina’s father and mother were both raised in Winthrop and have very strong ties to the community. Sabrina’s brother is seven years old and will be entering the second grade. Both of Sabrina’s grandmothers were long-time employees of Winthrop Public Schools and it goes without saying that this is a very traumatic loss for our school system and the town of Winthrop.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to this family and the many people that have been impacted by this sudden event. We will keep everyone informed regarding any information around when services will be held and how the school will support our students and community members through this difficult time. We have attached a resource which addresses discussing loss with your child and our adjustment counselors are more than willing to provide resources to local agencies which provide counseling services.

Mrs. Preble from the Cummings School is available via email @ apreble@winthrop.k12.ma.us

As the impact of this event settles in we remember how precious and special life is and how our jobs as educators go far beyond the classroom. Please enjoy time with your families as we remember Sabrina.

Sincerely,

John Macero
